Performance must be satisfactory in all components to pass the class. Graduate CreditFor graduate credit, students will be expected to complete extra work, typically on homework assignments, reading, and by actively participating in the weekly Security Reading Group (SRG). Graduate students can miss at most four SRG meetings. A penalty of 1/4th of your participation grade applies for each additional absence.Announcements and Class ReadingsRead emailed announcements carefully!Announcements will be made via email to the course list. You are responsible for reading each announcement carefully. You are expected to read all the assigned readings posted on the schedule page before class. ParticipationBe engaged, and don't be late!Students are expected to participate actively in class. Classes will be interactive and involve discussion. Attendance will be taken regularly and is part of your class participation grade. Late absences will get partial credit for attendance, and habitual tardiness will be treated as an absence. Homework Late PolicyManage your time well, and start early!Grace periods: To accommodate for unavoidable circumstances, you will be given a 3-day grace period for up to three homeworks. Beyond the deadline (and grace period if applicable), you will be penalized 25% a day. For example, if you score 73% and are 5 minutes late, you will be penalized 25% for 1 day, resulting in a score of 73 – 25 = 48%). Drops: Your lowest homework score will be dropped. Use these freebies wisely — they are meant for circumstances such as falling ill or interviewing. I will not grant any additonal extensions. FormattingAll homeworks and term papers must be submitted in printed form within the first five minutes of class on the day of the deadline. Pages must have 1-inch margins. Use 11-point font and single spacing. Term papers will have additional requirements, as specified on the projects page.RegradesIf any unfairness in grading is perceived, you must bring me both your homework and the other student's homework where the discrepancy is observed. If a discrepancy is demonstrated, both scores will be revised to the fair score.Laptop and Cellphone UseLet's concentrate in class!Cell phones must be set to silent or vibrate, and must not used in class for any reason. Laptops must remain shut in class unless you are using it to take class notes. If used for class notes, you must set the laptop to silent and turn your wireless connection off. No surfing, emailing, texting, and so on. In case of observed infractions, you will be penalized 1/4th of their participation grade for each such offense. I remind you that your participation grade must be satisfactory to pass the class. Project/Term PaperSee projects.Honor CodeGive credit where it's due and don't plagiarize. Don't copy or read others' solutions. Remember, when you cheat, you cheat yourself above all else.IU's Honor Code and policies apply to your conduct in this course. You may discuss readings with other students in the course or with me. However, you may not read or copy anybody else's solutions—all submitted work must be your own, based on your own understanding of the content after such discussions. In particular, you may not read solutions for assignments on the Web (including websites for previous semesters, inside or outside of IU). Credit your sources. In your assignments, list all your collaborators (e.g., "I discussed this homework with Alice, Bob, ...") and credit any sources (including software) used. You must also credit sources that are permitted by the instructor. For example, you must credit code that we give you if it helps you with your work (either by direct use of the code, or by simply enhancing your understanding by reading the code).
