Programming for Fun

Even though I have to write a lot of software for my research work, I still like to program in my spare time. Some pieces of software that I have written in this way include:

• Javascript to create navigation menus and to improve the esthetics on this web-site.
• An extension to MediaWiki to render (pretty-print) references stored in an external database. This extension is used in the Wiki that my research group uses.
• A web-interface to maintain a database of technical references, along with comments, for my own research group. An accompanying script allows easy retrieval of references in BibTeX form for including in a LaTeX document.
• A web-based software for managing my accounts with my apartment mate. It later evolved into a web-portal to a database that my wife and I use to track our household expenses.
• A web-based facilities accounting software for the Department of Computer Science at Rice (which started out as a simple command line Perl script).
• Web-pages for Friends Of Young Minds of which I was one of the founding members, and for the Duncan Hall Fridge Room co-op, at Rice.
